Ancellotta is a red grape variety whose first historical references date back to 1400. It took its name thanks to the Lancillotti family that first diffused this grape. It is a very vigorous grape variety that matures in September. The bunches are of medium size and cylindrical in shape, the grapes are very spherical with a thick skin. This variety is very popular throughout the Reggio Emilia area and in the surrounding areas, especially for its coloring characteristics as a blending grape for both Lambrusco Reggiano D.O.C. and for other national red wines. What makes this variety unique lays in its high anthocyanin content.
